INTRODUCTION

The editor of this section is MARION JANET (THONVOLD) RIME, a granddaughter of Johannes. Marion has been working faithfully on this history for over two years, gathering data, pictures, and writing.

With the resources she has been able to use, she has tried to make this history as accurate and complete as possible.

Now a little about Marion. She was born on a farm near Pennock, MN. At the age of seven the family moved to Willmar, MN where she attended Lafayette School and graduated from Willmar High School. She was a member of Vinji Lutheran Church and was confirmed and married there.

In 1946 she was united in marriage to Lester (Swen) Rime. They have lived in Spicer, MN ever since their marriage. That is where they raised their five children. They are members of Faith Lutheran Church and are active in church and community.

At the present time Marion is employed in the deli and catering business in the Green Lake Mall. Swen is mayor of Spicer. You will read more about their family in this section of the history.

THE JOHANNES KALLEVIG FAMILY

JOHANNES KALLEVIG

JOHANNES KALLEVIG, the oldest of the three brothers, was born in Moster Haven, Norway, on 16 January 1849. His wife, Kari, was born in Bergen, Norway, 25 March 1859. They were married in 1881. They came to America in 1886 and located on a farm near Eagle Lake. They later purchased a farm in Arctander Township, now owned by Glen Lindquist. From there they moved to Willmar. Johannes died in November of 1931, and Kari died in December of 1935. They were blessed with eleven children.

BERTHA JOHANNA (KALLEVIG) NELSON was the first child born to Johannes and Kari in 1882. She married John B. Nelson, who was born in 1869. They farmed by Sunburg, MN. John died in 1945 and Bertha died in Minneapolis in 1963. They had 6 children born to them which included a set of twin girls, Bernice and Alice.

NOEL JOHN NELSON

NOEL JOHN NELSON was the first child born to Bertha and John in 1904. He worked on the Railway Express. Noel married Marie Breska from Willow River, MN in 1936. Marie is the daughter of Frank and Mary Breska. They had 2 children: Shirley, born in 1937, attended the U of M in Education and is a Dr.; and Leon, who also went to the U of M and works at Control Data. Leon is married to Janet Strom.

BERNICE CORNELIA (NELSON) JOSEPH

BERNICE CORNELIA (NELSON) JOSEPH was born in 1906 and attended Moorhead State Teachers College and was a teacher for awhile. In 1927 she married Ross Ogelvie Joseph whose parents were John and Josephine Joseph. Ross was a Buick salesman in Hayward, WI. He died in 1976. They had one child, RICHARD JOHN JOSEPH, born in 1940. Rick went to Gustavus College and is now a counselor in Realties. Rick is married to Jeanne Hein, who was born in 1941. She attended Wayne College in Nebraska and became a teacher.

ALICE MIRANDA (NELSON) HASKEL

ALICE MIRANDA (NELSON) HASKEL was born to Bertha and John April 27, 1906 and attended Moorhead State Teachers College with Bernice. She went to work at Strutwear Co. Alice married Charles Haskell from Michigan. Charles worked at Northern Pump in Minneapolis.

HATTIE MARIAN (NELSON) LOWE

HATTIE MARIAN (NELSON) LOWE was born to Bertha and John October 12, 1910 in Kerkhoven, MN. She went to Vocational School and became a cosmetologist. Hattie married Donald James Lowe January 13, 1945. Don was born in 1897 in Herman, NE to James Donald and Emma Lowe. He went to Wayne College in Nebraska and worked as a Personnel Manager for Control Corp. Don died in October 1981. They had one child, JOAN MARIAN, born November 15, 1945 in Minneapolis.

ERWIN JOEL NELSON

ERWIN JOEL NELSON was born to John and Bertha September 26, 1918 in Kerkhoven, MN. He owned a restaurant in Minneapolis until his death in 1971. Erwin �Bud� married Evelyn Walsh and they had 4 children: SHARON, STEVE, SUSAN, and MARK.

EVELYN CLARICE (NELSON) APPLEQUIST

EVELYN CLARICE (NELSON) APPLEQUIST was born to John and Bertha November 17, 1920 in Kerkhoven, MN. She married Fred Applequist of Council Bluffs, IA. Fred worked for Kraft Foods. They now live in Sun City, AZ.

JOHN J. KALLEVIG was born to Johannes and Kari January 16, 1885 in Bergen, Norway. He came to America with his parents when he was about 1 year old, in 1886.

On March 10, 1910 he was united in marriage to Julia Leah Curtiss, who was born in New Rockford, ND, August 25, 1892. John farmed all his life and in 1919 he moved to a farm in the Yellowstone Valley where he could get irrigation. From there they moved to Sidney, MT where he did odd jobs, which were hard to find during the depression.

John died in Sidney September 1, 1961 and Julia died in Williston, ND July 7, 1945. They had 13 children.

PEARL AGNES (KALLEVIG) BOLAND

PEARL AGNES (KALLEVIG) BOLAND was the first child born to John and Julia on May 24, 1911 in McHenry, ND.

She worked as a salesperson in a department store for 7 years, then did what she had always wanted to do, took a year of nurses training and became an LPN, which she worked at for about 12 years. She is now retired but can�t stand to sit around and do nothing, so gets up every morning at 4:30 and delivers 50 papers for the Tacoma News Tribune. Bill worked as a truck driver and worked on various construction jobs. They were divorced in October of 1935. On November 4, 1940 she married Joseph Alphonsis Boland from Cascade, IA. Joseph was born January 21, 1905 in Cascade to Joseph Edward and Gertrude (Drew) Boland. He worked in the sugar factory in Sidney and also in Billings, MT. He also worked at other construction jobs. Joseph died January 4, 1968 in Anoconda, MT and is buried in Sidney. They had 3 children of their own and Joseph adopted Floyd and Russel Collins on August 21, 1952. Pearl now lives in Tacoma, WA.

WILLMA IRENE (COLLINS) JAMISON

WILLMA IRENE (COLLINS) JAMISON was born to Bill and Pearl October 7, 1930 at Fairview, MT, County of Richland. She was married to Daniel Jamison and they had 2 children. She was married a second time to Ernest Carman who was born June 17, 1924 in Oklahoma. They were married on January 5, 1959 in Antioch, Contra Costa, CA. They had 1 child, ERNEST WYNN CARMAN, born November 13, 1959 in Antioch.

RANDY JAMISON was born to Willma and Dan January 12, 1954 in Kennewick, WA. He was married to Schelley on June 28, 1980 and they have 1 child, AMANDA, born February 8, 1982 in Fort Bragg, CA.

KEVIN BRUCE JAMISON was born to Willma and Dan February 22, 1956 in Kennewick, WA. Kevin is married to Linda and they have 1 child, MICHEL CASEY, born on November 2, 1983 in Bend, OR.

FLOYD J. (COLLINS) BOLAND

FLOYD J. (COLLINS) BOLAND was born to Bill and Pearl March 22, 1932 in Sidney, MT. He was in the Air Force stationed in Germany for about 2 years and since has worked for the telephone company in Billings, MT for 30 years. On April 14, 1956, at Evansville, WY, he married Mary Rita Kelly, daughter of Grover and Helen Josephine (Sullivan) Cleveland. Mary Rita was born November 27, 1931 in Evansville. They have 3 children.

TIMOTHY MICHAEL BOLAND was born March 21, 1959. On September 20, 1986 he married Lisa Leaven and they live in Denver, CO, where he works as a salesman.

RUSSEL DEAN (COLLINS) BOLAND

RUSSEL DEAN (COLLINS) BOLAND was born to Bill and Pearl August 4, 1933 in Sidney, MT. He was previously married to Betty Kraft and they had 3 children, then on December 29, 1952 he married Betty Louise Verhasselt who was born to Julius and Blanch (Henry) Verhasselt on December 19, 1934.

LEANN JO (BOLAND) PICCIONI was born to Russ and Betty October 8, 1953 in Billings, MT, and was christened January 20, 1965 at St. Pius X Church in Billings. On August 2, 1974 she was married at St. Patrick�s Church in Billings to Gerold Claude Piccioni, who is the son of Claude Joseph and Constance Elisabeth (Lehde) Piccioni and was born May 6, 1948 in Santa Barbara, CA. He was christened in the same town at Our Lady of Sorrows Church on December 5, 1948. They have 2 children: KORI LEE, born September 10, 1977; and ANDREW DEAN, born September 24, 1977. Both were born in Billings.

SANDRA LEE (BOLAND) EVENS was born to Russ and Betty December 3, 1956 in Billings, MT. On December 20, 1980 she was married to Steven Eugene Evens, born October 5, 1954 in Fargo, ND, to Robert Eugene and LaVonne Elaine (Pharson) Evens. JODY LA-RAE (BOLAND) KEEHN was born to Russ and Betty July 2, 1958 in Lodi, CA. On July 7, 1977 she married Paul Eugene Keehn of Minneapolis, MN. Paul was born September 29, 1956 to Charles and Joan (Urista) Keehn of Minneapolis. They have 2 children: JANEL LEE, born December 28, 1982; and RUSSEL, born March 12, 1984. Both were born in Billings, MT.

MARVIN LEROY COLLINS

MARVIN LEROY COLLINS was born on June 22, 1935 to Bill and Pearl in Glasgow, MT. He was christened at St. Patrick�s Church in Montana in 1947. On April 28, 1956 he was united in marriage to Rita Kierzek, daughter of Frank and Laura (Klaves) Kierzek. He served in the Air Force for 20 years and was stationed in Korea and England, among other places. He now works for the government in Stockton, CA. Marvin and Rita�s marriage ended in divorce. They had 3 children. Marvin�s present wife�s name is Joyce.

LINDA LEE (COLLINS) MATTSON was born to Marvin and Rita September 19, 1956 in Panama City, FL. On November 5, 1976 she was married to David Mattson of Milwaukee, WI. He was born to Thomas Eugene and Gladys Miller (Jones) Mattson May 18, 1950 in Milwaukee. They have 2 children: RYAN, born January 21, 1977; and ADAM LEE, born February 25, 1979. Both were born in Milwaukee.

MICHAEL PATRICK COLLINS was born to Marvin and Rita November 6, 1957 in Panama City, FL. On February 5, 1977 he was married to Jill Behling. They had 1 son, MICHAEL, born July 12, 1977. Their marriage ended in divorce and Michael Jr. lives with his mother, Jill.

MARK JOSEPH COLLINS was born to Marvin and Rita July 12, 1961 in Washington, DC. Mark is married to Sue and they have twin sons, MARK and MATHEW, born July 25, 1985.

JAMES ALFRED BOLAND was Joseph and Pearl�s first child, born May 8, 1941 in Sidney, MT and christened in Billings, MT. He was in the Army for a couple of years, stationed in Viet Nam. He now lives in Billings, MT and works as a salesman. On June 19, 1964 he married Sandra Kay Squires, born June 3, 1944 to Ralph Edward and Eloise Myrl (Poling) Squires. They had 2 children: MICHAEL F., born June 20, 1970; and JENNIFER LYNN, born January 11, 1974. Both were born in Greeley, CO. They were divorced in 1980.

JOSEPH A. BOLAND was born to Joseph and Pearl April 1, 1944 in Billings, MT and was christened in 1944 at St. Patrick�s Church. He was in the Air Force for 2 years and then in the Army, in the Medical Corps, for 18 years. On December 14, 1968 he married Diane Hotchkiss, daughter of Clyde Lewis and Edith Rosemary (Maynard) Hotchkiss. Diane was born August 18, 1943 in Jamestown, NY. They have 3 children: JOSEPH ALLEN, born February 1, 1970 in Sacramento, CA; JASON ANDREW, born September 21, 1972 in Panama; and ROJAN, born July 13, 1976 in Jamestown, NY. Joseph was stationed in Panama, Germany and Viet Nam.

ANTHONY MICHAEL BOLAND was born to Joseph and Pearl April 11, 1946 in Billings, MT. He is not married.

CLIFFORD J. KALLEVIG

CLIFFORD J. KALLEVIG was born to John and Julia December 17, 1912 in New Rockford, ND. He worked as a contractor. Cliff was formerly married to Sadie Curtis, but they divorced. On June 1, 1940 he married Vivian Harriet Strobeck, daughter of Elias Harther and Mary Evangeline (Joealison) Strobeck in Sidney, MT. Vivian was born September 26, 1919 in Stanley, ND. She and Cliff have 5 children.

JULIE MARIE (KALLEVIG) KRAENZEL

JULIE MARIE (KALLEVIG) KRAENZEL was born to Cliff and Vivian May 18, 1944 in Williston, ND. On September 8, 1962 she married Dale Richard Rimmer, whose father was Calvin Richard Rimmer of Independence, MO and his mother�s maiden name was Lillian Lanham of Bartlesville, OK. Julie and Dale divorced January 10, 1966. They had 1 son, CONRAD RICHARD RIMMER, born May 14, 1963 in Lawrence, KS. On August 15, 1987, Conrad married Linda Witty, daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Thomas A. Witty Jr. of Topeka, KS.

Julie has a daughter, AMY GABRIELLE, born in Topeka, KS on June 19, 1970, whose father is George DeLozier Jr.

On July 17, 1976 Julie married Ralph Paul Kraenzel in Sidney, MT. Ralph was born August 21, 1941 to Reinhold Martain and Kathryn Elizabeth (Funk) Kraenzel in Hebron, ND. He works as a shoe cobbler and saddle maker. They have 3 girls: SARAH BETH, born November 29, 1976 in Sidney; ANNA MARIE, born January 29, 1980 in Williston, ND; and LEAHA ELIZABETH, born January 10, 1982 in Williston. Ralph legally adopted Amy.

JEROME HARTHER KALLEVIG

JEROME HARTHER KALLEVIG was born to Clifford and Vivian April 23, 1947 in Stanley, ND. He works as a heavy equipment operator. He and his wife, Karen, have 5 children. Bobbie and Wade, Karen�s children by a previous marriage, were adopted by Jerome.

BOBBIE JO (KALLEVIG) BREN was born August 8, 1965, in Sidney, MT. On February 16, 1985 she married Duane Bren, son of Roy and Kathie Bren of New Hrodic, ND. Duane works in the oil fields. They have 2 children: SHANDI NICOLE, born June 27, 1985; and RYAN DUANE, born January 17, 1987.

WADE WESTLY KALLEVIG was born January 22, 1967 in Sidney, MT and is married to Sherri Wells (married January 17, 1987). Sherri�s parents are Russel and Linda Wells.

Jerome and Karen�s other 3 children are: DAWN LANETTE, born June 7, 1971; KRISTY ANN, born November 1, 1973; and CHAD CLIFFORD, born August 30, 1975. All 3 were born in Sidney, MT.

KENDAL LEE KALLEVIG was born to Cliff and Vivian May 2, 1951 in Sidney, MT. He works as a Real Estate Broker. On December 27, 1980 he married Janice Rebecca Dassinger in Sidney. Becky is the daughter of Walter and Lillian (Freeman) Dassinger. They have 2 children: KENDRA LETETIA, born May 31, 1985; and JOSEF NIKOLAS, born April 24, 1987.

RANDAL DEE KALLEVIG was born to Cliff and Vivian May 2, 1951 in Sidney, MT and works in the oil fields. He is single.

NOEL ROY KALLEVIG was born to Cliff and Vivian December 15, 1953 in Sidney, MT and works as a salesman. On June 5, 1981 he married Denise Johnson, daughter of Jim and Elva (Berndt) Johnson. They have 1 child, SHANNON NOCOLI, born November 25, 1981.

MABLE IRENE (KALLEVIG) JONES

MABLE IRENE (KALLEVIG) JONES was born to John and Julia August 13, 1914 in Willmar, MN and was christened October 15, 1914 in Willmar. On January 20, 1933 she was united in marriage to Darold Clifford Jones in Sidney, MT. Darold was born June 17, 1909 in Kenmare, ND to Fred Cleavland and Fredree Irene (Leet) Jones. He was christened in Kenmare in August of 1909. Darold died October 22, 1981. They had 6 children, all of which went to the Methodist Church and were christened there. They all attended school in Sidney, MT.

VIRGINIA CAROLINE (JONES) KOCK

VIRGINIA CAROLINE (JONES) KOCK was Darold and Mabel�s 1st child, born May 10, 1934 in Sidney, MT. On July 3, 1952 she married Robert Leroy Kock, who was born June 17, 1930 to Mathias and Roiley Anie (Varner) Kock in Fairview, MT. They live in Sidney and have 6 children.

LUCINDA CAROLINE (KOCK) ANDERSON was born July 16, 1953 to Virginia and Robert in Sidney. On March 22, 1973 she married William Earl Anderson, son of Morris A. and Florence (Norton) Anderson. He was born March 31, 1947 in Forsyth, MT. They have 1 child, SHELBY RAE, born July 22, 1979 in Miles City.

ROXANA IRENE (KOCK) FOSTER was born to Virginia and Robert July 16, 1953 in Sidney, MT. Her first marriage was April 30, 1974 to Dennis Mellville, then on December 23, 1980 she married Dennis Foster. Dennis was born April 2, to Chester and Mildred Foster.

PAMELA SUE (KOCK) TAYLOR was born to Virginia and Robert October 11, 1956 in Sidney, MT and was christened at the Methodist Church in 1960. On January 15, 1977 she married Rockie Lee Taylor, son of Leo Delma and Daisy June (Rittel) Taylor. Rockie was born April 15, 1950 in Wolf Point, MT. They have 2 children: AUDIE LEO, born September 15, 1977; and SHANTI LYN, born January 12, 1979. Both were born in Sidney, MT.

TANA JEAN (KOCK) STAAL was born June 2, 1958 to Virginia and Robert in Sidney, MT and was christened at the Methodist Church in 1960. On June 2, 1979 she married Larry Lee Staal, born May 13, 1955 in Watford City, ND to Norman and Margaret (Lee) Staal. They have 1 child, SHANNON RENEE�, born November 16, 1979 in Watford City, ND.

SHELLY ANN (KOCK) FRATZKE was born to Virginia and Robert February 14, 1960 in Sidney, MT and was christened at the Methodist Church. On August 25, 1979 she married Charles Allen Fratzke, who was born April 13, 1950 to Warren Kenneth and Dorothy Mae (Stirling) Fratzke. They have 1 child, KENNETH CHARLES, born January 22, 1980 in Watford City, ND.

LORETTA IRENE (JONES) BELINSKI

LORETTA IRENE (JONES) BELINSKI was born to Darold and Mabel December 28, 1936. On March 30, 1957 she married William Belinski, who was born October 15, 1935 in Belfield, ND to Nick and Paraska (Haverlock) Belinski. Bill is a Certified Public Accountant and they live in Billings, MT. They have 4 children.

JANET LEE (BELINSKI) STCLAIR was born to Bill and Loretta July 8, 1959 in Billings, MT. On June 16, 1979 she married Marvin StClair, who was born May 11, 1952 to Kenneth and Cheta StClair in Helena, MT. Marvin is a fireman. He and Janet have 3 children: MICHELLE LEIGH, born July 23, 1980 in Helena, MT; STEPHANIE RAE, born November 16, 1981 in Helena, MT; and GARRETT MATHEW, born November 11, 1985 in Soldotna, AK.

MICHAEL TODD BELINSKI was born to Bill and Loretta April 20, 1961 in Miles City, MT. He graduated from Notre Dame-Berkeley School of Theology in 1983 and is continuing his education.

TIMOTHY WILLIAM BELINSKI was born to Bill and Loretta August 30, 1963 in Miles City, MT. He graduated in 1986 from Denver University and is an accountant.

PATRICK PAUL BELINSKI was born to Bill and Loretta June 12, 1968 in Billings, MT and is a student at Denver University.

DOROTHY SUE (JONES) SCHMITT

DOROTHY SUE (JONES) SCHMITT was born to Darold and Mabel July 29, 1940. Her first marriage was to Cherryll Price. She then married a second time on August 24, 1957 to LeRoy Schmitt, who was born September 28, 1935 in Sidney, MT to Phillip and Amelia (Thoughball) Schmitt. They have 3 children: TERRIE JANE, born August 18, 1958; BRIAN JOE, born August 9, 1959; and KEVIN LEROY, born July 3, 1961. All were born in Sidney, MT.

TERRIE JANE (SCHMITT) MORAST was married a first time to William W. Miller and her second marriage was on June 26, 1976 to Floyd J. Morast, son of Betty Renner. They have 1 child, JEREMY J., born March 12, 1977.

WILLIAM DAROLD JONES

WILLIAM DAROLD JONES was born to Darold and Mabel on January 17, 1943. Bill attended college in Missoula, MT and on July 17, 1964 he was married to Kathleen Anne Price, daughter of Daniel Charles and Dorothy (Crawford) Price. Kathleen was born February 17, 1944 in Sidney, MT. They have 3 children: LISA, born April 18, 1970; NATHAN, born November 26, 1971; and WILLIAM RYAN, born February 3, 1974. All three were born in Rexburg, ID. They now live in Billings, MT.

CLIFFORD FREDERICK JONES

CLIFFORD FREDERICK JONES was born to Darold and Mabel October 12, 1947 in Sidney, MT. He works in construction. On May 18, 1968 he married Marcella Rose Sticka, who was born December 11, 1949 in Dickenson, ND to Joseph and Katherine (Heiser) Sticka. They were married in the Catholic Church but now attend the Methodist Church where they live in Sidney. They have 2 children: TROY MIKEL, born October 11, 1968; and DAROLD JOSEPH, born December 18, 1975. Troy is an employee at an experiment farm and Darold is a student.

JOHN LEE JONES

JOHN LEE JONES was born to Darold and Mabel June 7, 1952 in Sidney, MT. He attended Rocky Mountain College in Billings, MT and is a contractor. On November 26, 1977 he married Louis Kay Nelson, born March 29, 1955 in Sidney, MT, to Chester and Selma Marie (Heringer) Nelson. They have 3 children: QUINN ROSS, who was adopted and was born November 15, 1975 in Williston, ND; VANESSA KAY, born December 26, 1978; and BODEAN LEE, born May 22, 1981.

CHESTER VERNON KALLEVIG

CHESTER VERNON KALLEVIG was born to John and Julia May 18, 1916 at Norway Lake, MN in Kandiyohi County. On December 15, 1947 he was married to Annie Martha Lapica, who was born February 21, 1923 in Ross, ND to Joseph Frank and Bessie Martha (Cuancara) Lapica. Chester died in Billings, MT on December 26, 1979 and was buried December 29, 1979 in Sidney, MT. He and Annie had 6 children, who were all born in Sidney, MT.

RONALD JOHN KALLEVIG

RONALD JOHN KALLEVIG was born to Chester and Annie September 19, 1948 in Sidney and on March 30, 1974 he married Kathleen McClurg, who was born September 13, 1953 to John Phillip and Josephine (LaDolce) McClurg in Columbus, MT. They have 3 children: DUSTIN CHESTER, born September 8, 1975 in Billings, MT; SHAWN RONALD, born October 14, 1977 in Powell, WY; and RYAN, born September 13, 1982 in Powell, WY.

DOUGLAS CHESTER KALLEVIG

DOUGLAS CHESTER KALLEVIG was born to Chester and Annie March 30, 1950 and on September 2, 1973 he married Cecelia Rosalie Sticka, who was born September 23, 1948 to the Tony Stickas. They have 2 children: KRISTIAN DOUGLAS, born December 11, 1973; and JERAMIAH JOHN, born June 19, 1976. Both were born in Billings, MT. Douglas and Cecelia were divorced in July of 1978.

STEVEN PAT KALLEVIG

STEVEN PAT KALLEVIG was born to Chester and Annie January 5, 1953 and on September 19, 1980 he was married to Gayle Lynn DeRudder, daughter of Edward George and Dorleen Fern (Berry) DeRudder. They have 2 children: SAMUEL PAUL, born May 1, 1983; and JOHNATHAN EDWARD, born May 31, 1986.

RENEE JOANNE (KALLEVIG) SHANKS
